This centennial celebration aims to preserve the documented story for future generations along with honoring the original rescuers, survivors, local citizens and the 149th Infantry who contributed to the rescue effort. By engaging descendants, historians, responders and the broader community, we are highlighting the importance of mining in this area and our nation.  The objective is to show the invaluable role of mining that supports our nation and drives daily efficiency in homes, schools and industry.  We also want to recognize advancements in mine safety and emergency response.  This centennial event presents an opportunity to honor the bravery, grit and determination of the community collaboration of the rescue effort.  This was a ‘Save Against All Odds!’
